Where does personal responsibility come in? Can you honestly say that you remember all the companies you consented to giving all the information they have on you? It is possible that you are a rare savant and you're 100% aware of what you signed up to and exactly who to, but for most people who just put their email down on a subscriber list to get a free coffee or newsletter or whatever didn't realise that their entire facebook profile, friend circle, interests, locations and dating life was being shared among hundreds of loosely tied together companies that collect databases of human information for a living. Some mom and pop retail outlet spamming you with annoying newsletters because your email address is stored in an excel spreadsheet is the least of your concerns here.
