I'm going out on a a limb and guessing that ABC just wanted an excuse. The whole thing seemed like a lark. Do an old throwback to kill some dead airtime for a couple of months, that somehow became the smash hit they would be idiots not to blindly renew despite (or because) it showed right wingers in a positive (or at least more human) light.

Now they have a reason to axe it. Of course, unless there's some network exclusivity clauses in contracts, she'll shop it around. It could be on Fox before the week's out.

Roseanne was the number one scripted show TV. If you think ABC cared more about portraying conservatives in a positive light than making beaucoup bucks, you are crazy. Especially when you consider most of the writing staff were classic Hollywood liberals. Seriously, Barr was about the only conservative on the show's production side. What she did however was draw intense negative publicity to herself and by extension the show that shares her name and ABC decided it didn't want anything to do with it.

Also, Roseanne the show is produced and owned by ABC. Roseanne is not able to shop it around without their permission.
