It seems more like you were trying to argue about it, rather than just finding it sad.

When the frequency of sexual abuse in children is as high as it is, it's not unreasonable to be EXTREMELY cautious of those sort of behaviors from adults.

Or even cautious from perceptions of other adults.
I was a camp counselor during my teens and work with mentally disabled youths as an adult. In both trainings we were immediately taught to never let a child sit on your lap and such as the parents might perceive it as something else.
I could've been royally fucked years ago due to my caring nature. Had a 14 year old girl with Down's ask me to change her maxipad while I was an intern, no other adults in sight and this poor girl was seeping through her pants. I helped her out and told my female mentor about it later. She said it was an incredibly dumb thing to do, but she was also proud of me as not many 18 year old boys would've helped the girl like that
