Should adults who are able to eat a normal diet and maintain a decent weight be forced to pay for those who can't control themselves?

Or should we have a mandatory tax that obese people have to pay to cover their overbearing costs on the medical system, transportation system, etc? Seeing as being overweight is a choice and anyone can make a change.

This alone invalidates your whole topic.

It doesn't invalidate it. The majority of obese people are obese due to choices. The ones that aren't could request a waiver, etc. from a doctor

Someone can choose to eat right but they won't lose 200 pounds in a few weeks. It's not like a switch you can turn on and off. It takes years of bad decisions to become obese, it takes a long time of good decisions to undo that.

That's not an excuse to be fat

Do you think an obese 10 year olds want to be fat? No, of course not. They have been taught bad habits their whole life while the readily available food is unhealthy for you. On top of that, obese kids tend to become obese adults. People think it's easy to lose weight but it really isn't nearly that easy (or easy to keep off once you do lose it).

People are eating fast food more than ever and it's not because it tastes better. Sometimes when you work a long 10 hour day for the 6th day in a row the last thing you want to do is spend 30-60+ minutes to make a home cooked "healthy" meal.

On top of that, processed/fast food tends to be cheaper which leads to poorer people (a large portion of the US population) eating that crap more often because they can't afford to buy healthier choices.

And when it all comes down to it, metabolism's exist. I have a friend who will sit down and no word of a lie eat 2 large pizzas in one sitting. I've never seen someone eat so much in my life yet he's 165lbs and has never seen the inside of a gym in his life.
