My cat lets me know when he needs more food, water, take-out-the-crap-from-my-litter-box.

Pretty smart though apparently they usually can't recognize themselves in mirrors.
When my cat was little, we used to put him in a room during the night so he didn't crash/break things while he learned to move without breaking stuff. There were mirrors there. He knows what mirrors are, and doesn't pay attention to his image. And he hates other cats, and gets agitated when he sees one outside.
