I'll never understand this. Get trash service, and still reward them with a tip.

Spoken like someone who's never worked in a restaurant. Not saying it's ok to give rude service or anything like that but there are plenty of potential reasons that may be outside the servers or bartenders hands for you getting service that wasn't up to your standards. In my experience, there is very rarely an instance where a server or bartender will intentionally give you bad service but customers tend to take everything personally when something goes wrong
