Cops said a teen who was paralyzed from the neck down after a clash with a police officer early Sunday had been involved in a melee outside a Brooklyn catering hall. According to a law enforcement source, the boy, 17, was being restrained by people involved in a large dispute outside the Widdi Catering Hall in Sunset Park. As police arrived, the teen managed to break free. Several responding officers chased him several blocks until one cop caught him, grabbed him and fell with the boy to the ground, the source said. The officers placed him into custody, but removed the handcuffs after he complained that he could feel nothing in his legs. Cops called the boy's mother and an ambulance, which took him to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn where he was listed in serious condition.

"The subject is currently conscious and alert, and prognosis is still not clear at this time," a law enforcement source said. "The incident remains under investigation." The NYPD has not named the officer involved or changed his duty status. The teen was attending a quinceaera party at the hall when a brawl broke out just before 2:30 a.m., cops said. Four officers two in uniform, two in plainclothes responded and tried to break up the melee outside. Another source said the officer pursuing the teen tumbled on top of him, causing a "critical spine injury." "Apparently he's paralyzed from the neck down," the source said.
