Uh yeah, people have been doing since, I don't know... when were regular people allowed to own guns? Oh right, since 1776. You give people access to weapons, some people are going to unjustly use them for horrible purposes. There isn't a way to avoid gun violence unless the government rounds up every firearm out there and madates that they stop being sold. That's the harsh truth that people don't want to admit. It can't be stopped. You can also start looking at the sociology and psychological reasons for it occuring, but again, you can't stop single parent households in low-income neighborhoods from happening. You can't stop bullying for 12 years from happening. You can't stop a lot of bad things on a nationwide level and that's why I think that this is not a government issue, it's a small community issue. Be nicer to people, be aware of the signs, help your neighbors out and establish a good sense of community and belonging so that people are less likely to feel outcast and are less likely to turn to violence.
