Restrict gun purchases to those with mental illness seems to be a common suggestion. Is that not discrimination? Where do you draw the line as far as mental illness? Schizophrenia? Bipolar? OCD? Using government watch lists to prevent gun ownership also has the whole issue over whether one has any legal ability to dispute being placed on a government watch list (they don't), and also whether the public would be privy to who is on said watch list restricting freedoms, which for all we know would be used to prevent those of different ethnic groups or religious backgrounds from purchasing firearms. Islamic travel ban anyone? What's to stop Trump from secretly banning Muslims from purchasing firearms?
