Despite, ya know, HR departments SPECIFICALLY EXISTING to defend their companies and help them improve their image so that they make more money? Companies wouldn't partake in such activities if they didn't see a return financially, be it through an increase of sales to a broader market or some good PR to, well, directly increase their image and profits.
