Saudi Arabia has been quietly cozying up to Israel for a year or two now, and they're also solidifying their power base in the region. The ONLY large sunni nation left in the world is Iran, and they're both ideologically and politically mortal enemies with Shias. Meanwhile, Iran has been trying to get friendly with Russia while using Syria as a staging ground for moving a large number of weapons to within striking distance of Israel. If you've been paying attention to the news for the last few years, you'd realize Iran isn't just some innocent child sitting there being picked on. Even if the US stayed in the deal, the Sunni Shia conflict is boiling to a head and Saudi Arabia sees an opportunity to end it once and for all. The only question is who's on what side when it happens. EDIT: People tend to take for granted that we are living in the single longest global peacetime in the history of humanity.
