I'm sorry but saying games are necessarily in a better state now than they were 15 years ago because of "more polygons" or "more mechanics" leads me to believe you're missing the point entirely. In fact I think we're on two different wavelengths here. Another choice quote: "Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." I can think of a few different games of the last 20 or so years that are indicative of what makes video games a great medium and they all adhere to that mantra.
