Did the "improvement" outweigh the sense of culture lost?

I've lived in a ghetto for 20 years, grew up in it. Over the past 3 years, gentrification has slowly started to happen, and it's slowly continuing to happen.
I've seen a lot of improvements. Some obvious ones are less crime and higher property values. It's now actually worth it to walk down the business district here, now that there aren't any bums lying around or anyone to harrass you. A lot of the blight is being torn down. The crime hives known as section 8 housing are disappearing here, and being replaced with market rate apartments. There are actually people my age here to socialize with now, who are decent people and don't belong in a gang. The people moving here actually care about making the neighborhood look good, and making it safe.

Sense of culture lost? If anything, we're getting new cultures. That's what diversity is all about, right? This used to be a 95% black neighborhood, now the culture and demographics are changing to be more inclusive.

If a neighborhood like this is going to be diverse, some people are going to be displaced. Hope your all-white subvision will welcome in these newcomers with open arms. :)
