This. And Korea's modern look/economy hasn't been that long compared to others. From Japanese colonial rule to a civil war to military dictatorships all within the last century.

There is a SHIT ton of whitening cream and stuff here that I have to avoid. For themselves, quite a lot of Koreans want to be lighter skin but you do have people that want to be darker. And non-white foreigners here will get complimented on their beauty too so it's not just a 'WHITE IS RIGHT" type of mentality.
