It's about listening to other people and having their voices in the room, hearing their perspectives. It doesn't mean you have to wipe the slate of the last thirty years, but it helps to think about what came of them and apply that knowledge to your future work. That's fine, as long as you accept "no action needed" as a possible outcome. The problem with the "listen and learn" crowd is that what they're really advocating for is change and using someone else's voice as an excuse to demand it.
