It was certainly a tour de force. I absolutely adored the juggling act of not only handling so, so many characters, but doing them all so supremely well. A lot of pop culture comparisons run through my mind: Empire Strikes Back, The Leftovers, The Two Towers, Doctor Who, specifically that one David Tennant scene ... but the one that I'm throwing forward is Lost for my point of reference topic.

Without spoiling anything, Lost was a show with lots of dangling plot threads and mysteries and a giant, giant cast of characters. The biggest failings of Lost were not knowing when to corral itself and solve things as they set more things up, keep focus on characters and characterization, and let the plot happen instead of forcing things.

Infinity War took ten years worth of movies, characters, relationships, tones, and plots and juggled them masterfully. Every single character had an establishing scene where we knew who they were and what they were about without an info dump so even those who hadn't watched before could follow at least 70% of what was going on.

Every single character had something that showed why you cared about them and their character worth to the universe, and how devastating the final minutes were.

I also really, really want to praise that opening scene for establishing so much and setting the tone so perfectly. You have call backs to the first Avengers with Thor, Loki, and Hulk and we just see how out of depth these once most powerful characters were against Thanos, and see how much of a force Thands is what impossible odds they're in for. Loki, the big bad of the Avengers, is tossed aside with such utter ease.

Gosh, this movie is just amazing. I may be blinded a bit by how much thee was offered up and I'm still digesting, but it just had everything done so well. It feels like an even more impossible movie than the first Avengers.
