One of my friends said his parents would disown him if he didn't marry a Chinese woman and knowing his parents, I don't think he was joking. Hey man, I don't not agree... I just mean that one who is at any reasonable age to date seriously (18+) should already have a good idea of who their parents would like to see them with. Do they pay their own way and can they take care of you etc. In the case of Muslims, sadly, I think more often than not their decisions are religious-based. In the case of your example and mine, the parents are tyrannical and any normal person should tell them to take a hike and inform them that they don't get to control them. It shows the parents' character and is a good test for the person you're wanting to date as well. I've been in relationships where the parents thought I was too old, then I find out later that my (ex) girlfriend is dating someone years older than me and her parents were fine with it. Basically I can't stand people who micro-manage or meddle in grown adults' lives. Sure, you want the best, but essentially forcing your kids to date your own people could cause some serious mental issues, at the very least resentment and bad blood. Lokarin posted...
