Alcohol is also used by doctors as an anti-toxin. If someone swallows something toxic, one way of fixing that is by giving the body something to digest before it gets to the toxin. S***y hospital beer does that.

Now, there are always better things to do any of those things, but broadly negating it (from a society perspective) because of the negatives is a dumb way of looking at things.

Also it tastes good, fuck it. Cook with it, drink it, be happy when you drink it, have fun.
