Some quick impressions from the demo/beta.

The full game is supposed to have both breeding and fusion, but the demo only has fusion (though it's called breeding). At this point in time, each base monster has five forms they can fuse into depending on the type of the secondary monster. Trying to fuse already fused monsters just results in the form changing between the five possible outcomes, but just with different color palettes. And moves too, but it caps at five and there's so far no way to pick and choose what gets passed down. A move deleter is apparently coming in the next update to the demo though.

The battle system is simple. You choose attacks, and they can be strong or weak depending on type. Unfortunately when choosing a move you can't actually see anything other than its name, so you just have to remember what it does, what its type is, and how strong it is. There's also some mechanic where switching monsters builds up some kind of power gauge for stronger attacks, but early game there's no need for it so I haven't cared to learn about it.

There's no random battles, instead the monsters just spawn on the overworld and give chase. Recruiting them is basically just a matter of being a few levels higher than them and then it's like a guaranteed recruitment even at full health.

There is online battling, and you can set a prize so the winner gets a version of something on the loser's team, which has potential to be cool. It's still pretty buggy, though. When I tried last night, my opponent and I couldn't see each other to get the battle started.

The presentation needs some work, but it feels too early to really criticize it on that when there's still so much time for it to improve before final release. The writing so far seems bland too, though.

Also the demo only has your starter and four other monsters found in the wild, plus some codes (that can be entered as many times as you want) for a few others. And you can't get another copy of your starter if you fuse it, unless you battle and beat someone who listed it as a prize. There's five starters, one for each type.
