I'm actually a huge digibro fanboy, but I don't agree with much that he said. The things you mentioned are kinda different from what he said. But anyways, it's a big case of rose tinted glasses, and that anime's always been like this; he just doesn't scrutinize for bullshit that old anime pulled.

Very true, older anime was variable in quality too and a fair share of it wasn't that good so acting like that wasn't the case is pretty silly at best

If I get started talking about the Digibro video, I might be here for a long time, so ... all I am going to say is that I am starting to suspect that 'mediocrity' is code for 'moe anime' for people who are having those 'state of anime' discussions. *shrugs* I learned not to mind the moe (see: Gochiusa and New Game!, among other recent examples), since it has been a big thing in anime for a good fifteen years now, but there are still many who have not been converted.

I don't watch moe so I won't hate on it, rather I think it's just another genre that isn't doing any harm so it's all good to me, more variety is always good

I do agree that the anime industry as a whole really fails to capitalize on a lot of obvious things. You get something great like cowboy bebop, have a great similar show with samurai champloo and then boom, never again. Why? It's not like that type is THAT hard to write and we only have examples of it being successful.

Code geass might even be a better example. That was essentially a super show with massive popularity and high ratings and they just never bothered to give us anything like that again. It was arguably similar to deathnote, another idea that was just dropped after success. The concept of guy gets supernatural power and takes on the world with strategy is immensely entertaining but they for some reason decided not to copy the s*** out of that like they did to something like SAO with all the isekai. It's like they don't want money or something.

And I have to quote this because I agree 100% with it (plus Code geass is a fave of mine)
More stuff like that would be great
Also, I do like how some of the better shows i.e Made in Abyss, Hero academia, seven deadly sins and March comes in like a lion are getting proper extra seasons when I thought they'd be the usual "one and done" affair, I'm glad to see that isn't/won't be the case and I hope that continues with other shows as well.
