If you have no interest in reading the LN I'd still take a look at it because there are some changes made in the adaptation. Changes that I don't understand. I don't know exactly what happens but they were supposed to have a reunion somewhere near the end on the train (I think) but in the anime they had his brother replace him for those scenes. It also doesn't make sense in the anime because his family all are acting like he is dead. Apparently he faked his death and told Hodgins or something. Again, the LN probably handles this better than how I'm telling you right now. Also what is important is they originally planned for post "death" Gilbert. In the first 2 pv's there is a shot with Gilbert with a missing eye (with scars). So I don't know what made them change it .
