is an ar15a4 a good buy for a first time gun-owner, and which manufacturer is recommended given the spotty availability of ones manufactured by colt

asking for a friend

I did not see the AR-15A4 at Colt's SHOT Show booth this year so I don't think they make them. FN make some good one and they have the military contract right now. The Springfield Saint is probably best value. Complete_Idi0t posted...
The primary reason that people get upset about them is that they leave cartridges all over the place when fired, and littering is wrong.

Someone needs to invest biodegradable casings. Buzz Killjoy posted...

Here's my AR, built pretty specifically for 2 and 3-gun style competitions.

YHM-125 billet lower
YHM-110 billet upper
YHM-5325 mid-length handguard
Faxon Match Series Flame-Fluted barrel, 16" 5.56/.223
Faxon Gunner Lightweight BCG
Elftmann Tactical ELF Match trigger
VG6 Epsilon muzzle brake
Hogue grip
Daniel Defense stock
Vortex Spitfire 3x prism scope

Awesome build
