The biggest issue I have with Hyundai/Kia right now is that they have GDI engines. These engines have the fuel injector right in the cylinder as opposed to behind the intake valves, meaning they foul up much more quickly, leading to misfires, and all sorts of other problems. Now, it's not too bad/expensive of a fix, if you catch it in time, as you take off the intake manifold and clean the ports out, but it's something that used to be very rare, now becoming expected service 50-70k miles down the road.

Granted this process is slow and takes many thousands of miles to manifest, but it's a real problem that GDI engines face right now. Some companies are getting the right idea and adding injectors to both the cylinder and the ports so that they get the instant response GDI provides, and the cleaning properties port injected engines get.

That being said, I own a 2018 Optima, and I'm doing my best to prepare for the inevitable. Assuming I want to keep the car forever.
