He retired many years ago to take care of his kids after his wife passed away (she died from breast cancer). He made a lot of money from his films, so no need to ever work again. After the passing of his wife, he decided that putting full time into taking care of his kids was more important. I don't know how old his kids are now, but if they are old enough now to the point where they are adults, I guess he could try to return to Hollywood, but staying at home and relaxing might seem like a better deal to him.
