that's just the word for it. If you look up "furry" in colloquial use, you'll find predominantly pictures of cats and dogs, maybe fur coats. Words can have different meanings when used in different contexts.

Feral is essentially just a word to differentiate that the character's skeletal structure is that of a regular animal and not that of a human.
