I mean, what changes story-wise if Luke and Vader fought their way outside onto a dock somewhere and he jumps from there? They wanted the environment to be enclosed for drama/film-making reasons, so they put a tube for him to fall into. Perfectly acceptable. It's a far cry from ~~Obi-wan Kenobi tracking an assassin and stumbling upon the potential to win a war nobody knew was brewing. What changes if he doesn't?
