Yes games are better now a days, but mainly because technology has advanced so far, we can put all kinds of stuff in games nowadays. The only comparison you can really do now is fun factor. I feel both have a pretty equal amount. Genres have changed a lot as well. Even rpg's don't play the same anymore.
