Unfortunately, EarthBound yet again decides to opt for the archaic style of Dragon Quest for the gameplay. Everything is done inside of menus, which includes talking, accessing items and equipment, and checking out things (chests, dressers, objects, etc.). Once again, when there are RPGs out there on the system that are making actual advancements for the genre, EarthBound insists on sticking to the old style this includes the battle system. Not only does this so accurately reflect the times, I feel like this could have been yanked out of EGM or GamePro, haha. There must have been lowered expectations back then, because I think my write ups now can be kind of uninteresting and garbage sometimes, but holy cow, theyre art compared to these reviews! ...
