It just gets tossed into piles or jars or buckets until I finally decide to do something with it. Well it's gotten a little out of hand as of late so I decided to roll it up and divide it between my niece and nephews to further pad my resume for best Uncle ever.

So I begin this arduous task by separating the coins by their denominations, going through them a handful at a time and putting each in their own respective containers. It was awful. It's just a really time consuming process and when I tried to go faster I'd make mistakes and accidentally drop a dime in with the pennies and get even more frustrated. And the whole time I'm thinking, "Fuck, this is so much change. And it's probably all just filthy. This stuff could have been anywhere. How many coins do you think you've touched tonight that have been up someone's butt at some point?" This is just how my brain works.

I did my best to make a game of it and after roughly four hours over the course of two nights it was (barring a few discolored dimes) separated.

I decided I needed to take a couple nights off because I hadn't actually gotten any of the paper change wrappers yet and I really just didn't want to deal with it. During that break I spoke to my mother, who happens to be an avid metal detector, and told her what I was doing. She suggested that I look at each quarter and dime and keep anything pre-1965 separate because they're made of silver. My first thought was, "Damn, some of these could have been up someone's butt who has been dead for like sixty or seventy years." My second thought was, "That's gonna make things take much longer than I'd like but I'm in no hurry so I'll start with the quarters and see what I find."

Well let's just say I found more than I was bargaining for. You see, America isn't a perfect nation. And as flawed as it may be, I still feel fortunate to live here. Many issues, whether they be political or educational or social, need to be addressed if we want those areas to be at the same level as other nations that are considered to be World Powers. But if there's a single thing that puts us head and shoulders above every other country it's this -- we have like 500 different varieties of 25 coins.
