The first paper or two is going to be largely someone else's work while you learn the ropes. And you've got all the time in the world to do your work and figure out something to publish on. My perspective on this is based on 1) a book on what it's like to do a CS PhD (aimed at people interested in doing one) and 2) my confidence in my work ethic and abilities that have been proven in competitive industry. --- Do good.
