I will never willingly have a gun in my house, so this is a bit of a moot point, but if I ever did.

1. If I could run, I would do that and call the cops.
2. If they were blocking my escape route, but were not visibly armed, I would warn them that I was armed and tell them to leave.
3. I would only shoot if they attacked me or if they were visibly armed.

a) Shooting someone in the arm or leg can very easily be fatal - there's a ton of blood vessels running through both. The action movie trope that you can take a shot to the shoulder or calf and limp on heroically is bullshit.
b) Deliberately shooting someone in the arm or the leg is also damn near impossible with most guns, particularly given how much adrenaline will be flowing at that point. Guns outside of video games do not have magic accuracy and are not point-and-click weapons. There's a reason why standard procedure for shooting at a human is "aim for the centre of mass".
