What makes you say that? Extreme workaholic society that values conformity and the needs of the group over the needs of the individual (individualism tends to be frowned upon). Seniority matters far more there than in other societies, even if the younger person may have better ideas. That hardly makes it an "absolute nightmare to live in." Their justice system is a joke too. They're more concerned with conviction rates than getting to the truth of the matter. Japanese prisons are no laughing matter either.
