I'm pretty sure there's an actual written out version of this somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. The graphic is generally accurate though. If you are a trained cog in a wheel, no authorship, essentially.


fun fact: my old adviser took my master's thesis, slapped his name in first author position, trimmed down to appropriate size, and submitted to a conference

if it were a journal i'd have been angry

I'm pretty sure that happens here too. Most of us ask for permission and put the student as co-author at least, though.
