Dude, you don't need to have an opinion on everything. If you want to join in on the conversations, then yes, you should know what you're talking about. But you've admitted you don't like it most of the time. Why bother subject yourself to such... negative energy? So what if other people talk about him? Ignore it and move on. Holding on to things that irritate you, annoy you, and are generally unpleasant will take a toll on your life one way or another.
I think you're overthinking how much his stuff bothers me, or I made it sound like it bother me more than does. It's annoying, but not to any extreme extent. ---
