What does a registration accomplish, beyond giving the govt. a checklist if they decide to confiscate?
This is actually a very good question, regardless of the latter part being hilariously unlikely. What actual useful purpose does firearm registration serve?
I can't think of a good reason.
I can: if completion of safety training became part of the requirement to fully exercise a second amendment right, registration would allow government to track who has a firearm and has not completed said training.
Also, it would improve the capacity for confiscation of firearms from people identified as too risky to allow to exercise their second amendment rights.
But since safety training isn't a thing, so there's no point.
I agree with the second part, but that goes into some other issues ---
