For his first stand-up special in nearly a decade, Chris Rock didnt hold back. In Tamborine, which was released early Wednesday morning on Netflix, the comedian takes on many hot-button issues, while also delving into his own personal life and mistakes, including cheating on his ex-wife and his self-described porn addiction.
Rock doesnt waste any time jumping into the deep end, opening the 64-minute special by wondering why cops dont shoot a white kid every now and then just to make it look good. He proceeds to weigh in on everything from gun control to Donald Trump to religion. But the back half of Tamborine is where Rock really opens up.
The special takes its name from Rocks comparison of being in a relationship to being in a band: Sometimes you sing lead, and sometimes youre on tambourine. And if youre on tambourine, play it right. Play it with a fing smile, because no one wants to see a mad tambourine player. It turns out he didnt play the tambourine right, as he admits he was not a good husband.
