We're not alone obvi

a giant ass universe, there's no way we're the only planet with people.

yes it's a giant ass universe. so large that there can be billions of civilizations that are too far away to meet.

Sucks that we don't have the tech to meet them!

Do you think people know of our existence because they are technologically superior?

I'm just a pessimistic layman.

but here's the thing.

the nearest star is 24 trillion miles away.

I don't think we have visitors or will ever become visitors because of this

If we think in terms of our current technology, definitely... But I'd say it's at least possible that there is some civilization out there that has figured out how to traverse such distances in a relatively short time with much more advanced technology.

One theory is that if anyone had that sort of technology, much of the universe would already be colonized by now.

It's been proposed that there could be a rate limiting measure in place where a species is wiped out (say by their own hand via nuclear war, resource drain/mismanagement, etc or natural causes) before becoming advanced enough for interstellar travel.

I'd say it makes sense, since I very much doubt that we'll be around long enough to make it anywhere more significant than say.. Mars. >_>
