Was this the game that had the controversy like a year and a half ago because it wasn't gonna have any black people in it?

Sort of? But I think phrasing it this way misrepresents what happened. Back when the Kingdom Come crowdfunding campaign started 4 years ago, a follower of the Medieval People of Color blog noticed that the campaign promised a realistic representation of Bohemia and, on the surface at least, a white-washed cast. This struck the person as incongruous, so they contacted the developers to elaborate on their ambitions, and ask if this was a deliberate choice. Warhorse responded definitively that no, they wouldn't be adding people of color, because they did not exist in Bohemia at the time. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole, there's a larger summary on the People of Color blog in the associated tags:

Months after this, the head of the studio, Daniel Vavra, got pretty deep into GamerGate, which obviously caused an even larger shitstorm, and went on several tirades after Polygon noted Witcher 3 didn't have people of color, and I think you can sense the pattern.
