Last time my friends and I co-oped in a Monster Hunter game was with MH4U on the 3DS and for that we soloed through the story. So if I understand you correctly, one can directly join a friends game by simply answering the SOS without leaving the game and still get credit for the storyline quest. Said online settings can be set so only friends can answer the SoS, right?
