Fans never use that same reasoning on themselves, they always feel like they have a right to tell professionals that they're guilty of "bad writing" and that they should have done this, that or the other(basically regurgitated their fantasies on screen). The thing is, it's much easier to tell when something is bad than it is to make something good from scratch. You don't need to have a writing degree to identify bad writing, but it also doesn't make you qualified to produce something better.
