Seems dumb because actually aiming and properly discharging the weapon should be a part of it I've never been airsofting, but at paintball places they generally have a distance rule where you can't/shouldn't shoot someone if they're within a short distance. It's probably that. I've never been to a paintball place but played woods ball hundreds of time as a teen and we never got close enough for that to happen.
