It's less natural selection and more the system is failing it's patients
But good luck trying to get the egg heads on board with that
I'm trying to understand.. how he is a product of a failed system?
He needs to be treated like an addict, not a normal person with normal person logic. He's going to shoot up, he's going to get easily avoidable illnesses, he's going to be a pain in the ass, he's going to do everything he can to get high. That's how this disease works. Most doctors are able to see this, but they aren't able to properly care for them given the rules, laws, insurances that surround him, so they get stuck in the circle of stupid.
If the healthcare system just gave doctors the resources to how they see fit for patients, the system would be drastically better
Given the current scenario though, natural selection is probably the net good. The patient is going to see a near death experience and have actual fear/disgust of themselves before they go after it
You do make some good points but how would you get it done? Force them into clinics? ---
