My brother and someone else I talk to online are playing it and neither know a lick of Japanese. Most is trial and error. Green moves heal, blue are status effects, yellow are buffs.... it's just a matter of saying "Okay, this green move on this.....I dunno, bird is a team heal" .... And voila, remember that and the more you use the monsters, the easier it is to remember.
