This has more to do with expectations than reality though. You're in the 62ndish percentile of household income in Minneapolis from just one income. Like, I wouldn't call $72k a year rich by any means (or $66k in your case), but a majority of people in your city get by with more than $10k less.

I think part of the problem with people in this topic and the earlier one today is that:

1. Having (or being) a non-working spouse is a luxury.
2. Being able to max out your retirement contributions is a luxury.
etc.

These might be things that are personal goals for you and the second is advisable if you can manage it, but they are luxuries.
