Another thing to add that isn't a policy change or position appointment:

His reaction to Charlottesville literally couldn't have been worse unless he tried. Even today that is probably his most divisive moment, and the moment you knew his most loyal cultists were dug in deep.

It took him days to even respond to the event, and even longer to give us a canned response condemning Nazis. Then within hours of that he flies off the handle and tells us his true feelings about the matter. We then got the famous "there were fine people on both sides" line.People still associate his presidency to that line today, and it will likely be referenced until the day he finally leaves office.

Yes, it technically took days. Two days. What did he ACTUALLY say?

Trump says both sides to blame amid Charlottesville backlash

"I think there is blame on both sides," Trump said during a contentious back-and-forth with reporters in the lobby of his Midtown Manhattan building. "What about the 'alt-left' that came charging at, as you say, the 'alt-right,' do they have any semblance of guilt?" Trump asked. "What about the fact they came charging with clubs in hands, swinging clubs, do they have any problem? I think they do."

Trump's response was timely and accurate. He would have been attacked for saying anything short of "White people are evil." Like the Puerto Rico incident, a lot of people's criticism is towards things that didn't exactly shake down the way they remember them.
