Because it's fucking goofy April is already an established character. Exactly. I honestly don't see why you can't retire April for the time being and create a new character to fill her role. That would be less egregious. Or hell, keep April and give her a role in the background while the new character takes over as the female lead. The turtles themselves are fucked up as well.
