The real offense is that there's no continuity whatsoever in her personality. (And that she's flat chested.) That's actually disputed since one of the creators (can't remember if it was Laird or Eastman) stated that the character was always portrayed as white, but the other one, like you said, says he envisioned her original version as being based on his half black girlfriend. So it's kind of up in the air.
