But at least we have a system in place to fire them all every few years (even though we don't utilize it).


Well the issue is largely that many candidates end up running unopposed or exist in an area heavily gerrymandered in their favor.

Courts have been doing a good job lately at knocking down some of the gerrymandering attempts. SC is the biggest example of that I can think of. Not any good solutions to prevent people running unopposed tho.


Those are true, but also we have such low turnout. If we had something like 80%+ turnout of eligible voters I feel things would be better in general.


Well it's hard to get people motivated to vote when often it won't make a difference. You would improve voter turnout by fixing the issues that allow a single candidate to dominate a ballot.
