I have no idea what kind of person Icoyar is or any other problems he has besides aspergers. but to some people with mental disablities, work can be very hard. I have always been totally miserable at work. between all my different anxieties, and my fear of interacting with people, it can be hell sometimes. and I don't have any realistic grand dreams. so what's the point? I might as well just enjoy my life at home. and maybe he is the same way I don't know. I think he put more effort into college than I did, so he has that going for him.

Dude. He and I are both Autistic, or rather high-functioning, assuming he's told the truth on this.

I put myself through college while collecting SSI. SSI helped pay for books, tuition, and rent/utilities since I was living with family. Graduated with an AS, sent out hundreds of job applications a month, and finally, after about a year since graduation, I got a job and a foot into the door of the IT department at a local company. Been working there for over three years now and been off SSI for about half since my initial salary was within the limit that SSI allowed. Once I got a raise, I was no-longer qualified for SSI and ended it.

It's a good job. Great hours, pays okay, gives dental/health/vision insurance, and I have a 401k. Gave me the confidence boost to earn my driver's license in 2016. Made a lot of new friends and helped with my future.

I'm not saying it's impossible or denying that it's hard. You just have to keep at it and eventually, something will work out. I've told him this, several times. I just don't think he cares.

well all I know is what my old therapist said once. that most people with austism don't lead successful lives. she implied that the average autistic person, even high functioning, is on government assistance for life. you might be a very lucky or just really determined exception, I don't know. not to discredit your accomplishments.
