Plastic bags are coated in animal fats. That's why lots of cats chew plastic.

Why did take so long for you to give me a non-trollish answer? We feed him high quality food. I guess we just need to lock up all the bags from now on. We save them for cleaning up after the golden retriever.

You're new to these topics I guess

Also using non degradable plastic for animal waste is another bad thing for the environment. They make biodegradable poop bags for a reason

Oh, the article you posted was the first thing that came up when I tried to find more on this.

https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2016/09/to-tote-or-note-to-tote/498557/

Why didn't you just post the whole thing? This part in particular is relevant:

The UKEA study calculated an expenditure of a little less than two kilograms of carbon per HDPE bag. For paper bags, seven uses would be needed to achieve the same per-use ratio. Tote bags made from recycled polypropylene plastic require 26, and cotton tote bags require 327 uses.

It's a fair point on cotton, though I don't think that's what a lot of them are made of. I believe the one I have is some kind of recycled plastic, so 26 uses doesn't seem unreasonable. And like I said, this is bag-for-bag, but mine can hold a lot more than one plastic bag, so it's really offset by like 10 uses.

The excess that these are produced with and the fact people treat them as disposable are fair points, but that doesn't make them a bad idea in principle.

I've been using my recycled plastic totes every week for years. Sometimes I forget. When I do forget I use a cardboard box that the grocery store supplies (they're food packaging boxes so no extra waste).

Anyway it's way past the 26 uses required at this point. It's as easy as stashing a bag or three in your vehicle. When I unpack my groceries I hang the bags on my door knob so that I have to interact with them when I'm going to leave the house. That's my signal to take the bags with me and put them in the car. It has worked well in spite of the ADHD
